Mack McKain, Maintenance Officer

Irvin B. McKain (Nov. 1943------) Council Bluffs Airport Maintenance Super. USAF retired (1985) after 23 years 7 months and one day of service. Aircraft Mechanic---B-58--B-52--C-140A--KC, EC,and RC 135s. My dad had a Piper Vagabond when I was very young. I got dragged all around to airshows so this aviation thing has been with me as long as I can remember. Was flying control line models when radio control was just getting off the ground. I still have a lot of radio control gear laying around.

Started flying around 1962 at Carswell AFB TX. Soloed in a Piper Tri Pacer. Reached 33 hours and quit flying for 29 years. Got back into it with the Soaring Club. After four years of glider and ultra light flying I decided to add the "airplane" rating. Thanks for the check rides Bert. Now days I'm flying a 1950 Aeronca Champ--the Pawnee tow plane--four or five models of the Cessna 172 and a Cessna 150---along with our sailplanes and the Schweizer 1-23H15. Total time now is a little over 500 hours not counting the 33 mentioned above or any ultra light time. About 178 hours is in sailplanes. Looking forward to adding many more hours of fun flying.
Next to the Air Force the Omaha Soaring Club is the best "outfit" I've ever been in. Keep up the good work everyone and THANKS ! ! !
