Safety Seminar - Soaring Club Trip 9-16 Jun 2001
Soaring in April...
Soaring has finally returned after a long tough winter. The longest flight of the month was one hour and forty seven minutes, Perry Mitchell in the Blanik. Bob Craig soared the 1-26 for one hour and forty minutes. We flew three days this month and got seven safety flights out of the way.
Colorado Trip
OSC will be heading for Salida CO on approximately 9 Jun 2001. This was the time that worked the best for the most members. Salida is southwest of Colorado Springs and west of Canyon City and the Royal Gorge. The airport is 5 miles from the Sagre de Cristo Mountains.
We will be taking the L-13 and 1-26 and will rent or purchase an oxygen system to be-shared amongst the two gliders. I called the glider operators at Salida and they were happy to have us there. They operate 7 days a week and mentioned that Jun is the best time to saor there.
I will be heading out with my family on 9 Jun 2001. We will be staying at the Bighorn Park resort which is 20 miles east of Salida in Coaldale CO. This place has a motel, cabins, RV hook ups, and tent sites and is located along the Arkansas River. A restaurant and heated pool are also located on the premises. The phone number is (719) 942-4274 and email is www.bighornpark.com . There are places closer than this to the Salida Airport but this place caught my wife's eye.
I have information for other places to stay in the area and I will place this information in the trailer.
I will tow out one of the gliders so someone else will need ot volunteer to tow the
other glider. I will be coming back on Saturday, the 16th of Jun with a glider
unless someone else wants to stay later and will bring the glider back. The
following people are going so far:
Bob Craig, Tim Gleason, Rich Nicholson, Bert Aagesen, Perry Mitchell, Jaime Alexander, and
Lloyd Kaufman. Matt Olsen, Terry Schmidt, and Chris Rubiez might be going. If
anyone else would like to go, let me know. Everyone is welcome.
On Sunday, 3 Jun 2001, we will take the L-13 and the 1-26 apart in preparation for the trip.
SSA Dues
You may have noticed your bill grew faster than normal this month. This is due to our annual charge for SSA.
