Soaring in February

OSC flew three days in February and there were soaring conditions on at least on of those days. The longest flight for the month was Bob Craig in the 1-26, soaring for 38 minutes from a 3000 ft tow. The club also gave two introductory rides during the month and sold one gift certificate.

New Members

OSC picked up two new members. Steve Jack and Jeannie Leon. Steve is a DC-9 pilot who flys for Kitty Hawk and Jeanny Leon works at Boys Town. Steve and Jeannie are engaged to be married this summer. Steve and Jeanny, welcome to the club!!

Blanik Located!!

A Blanik has been located which the club will purchase unless something is found really wrong with it at the last minute. At press time, Bill Stukenholtz was driving down to Dallas TX to look at it and mabye bring it back. It is priced at $14000 as is with trailer. Some minor work is needed to get it annualled and ready to fly and this will be done at Loop City. It seems to be in very good shape from the pictures available for it. If anyone would like to view it then click on the following link: New Blanik

Safety Seminar

Jaime Alexander put on an excellent safety seminar. It was video taped and all club members who were not at the meeting must view the tape and take a short quiz prior to 1 Jun 00 to remain eligible to fly. The video tape is available from Bob Moser for viewing along with the short quiz. Once you have viewed the tape, deliver or mail the quiz to Jaime Alexander so you get credit. Also, all members who have not had a check ride or BFR since last summer must take a check flight with an instructor. Make sure this flight gets annotated on the flight sheet as a check flight so you get credit for it. If you don’t know where Bob Moser’s office is, see the map below.

Cell Phone for Club

The cell phone is now installed in the club trailer. There is a lighter type power socket that the phone plugs into. The phone should be plugged in to the socket when we are flying and then unplugged when we are not flying. Please listen for the phone when you are not flying. It could be some one interested in a ride, a club member seeing if we are flying, or a club member who has landed out. Feel free to use the phone to call home, flight service, or air traffic control. But we should try to keep the phone open as much as possible for incoming calls. SOF’s, once you have set up the daily flying operation, you should check the voice mail once to see if anyone needs directions to the airport.

Treasure’s Report by Robert Craig

The balance in the bank account includes the deposit for the 2-22. We financed $10000 for the L-13 and transferred $3000 from the engine fund to have enough money in the bank for the purchase. Once we get the balance of the 2-22 payment, the engine fund will be brought back to its proper level. Also, monies owed by members is decreasing but is still high.

Maintenance Report

No maintenance was performed on club equipment in February.
