Soaring in March

OSC flew seven days in March. The longest flight of the month was Tim Gleason in the 1-26, staying aloft for one hour and 41 minutes. Bob Craig, Chris Rubiez, Jaime Alexander, and Rich Nicholson all had flights of at least one hour. OSC gave five introductory flights during the month.

Blanik Purchased

A Blanik has been purchased and is currently getting air-worthy out at Loup City. It appears to be in very good condition for its age and also has a good trailer. We should see it out at Blair within the next couple of weeks. By the time you read this the 2-22 should be on its way to it’s new home in Illinois, opening up the hanger for the new Blanik.

Minutes of the 25 Mar Meeting (including any updates since the meeting)

The following members attended the meeting: Bob Craig, Tim Gleason, Jaime Alexander, Bob Moser, Roger Grant, Mac McKain, and Perry Mitchell.
The initial discussion concerned what constituted a quorum for voting. This issue will be resolved as part of the Bylaws update currently ongoing.

Officers Reports:

Vice President (Bob Moser) – FBO promotion package is ready to be sent out. OSC signs are almost done. We are still looking for a method to have new people coming out for rides, wait at the deck until someone comes down to escort them out to the operations area. Bob will also be making up some OSC business cards. The Safety Seminar tape is available at Bob’s office for viewing.

Operations (Jaime Alexander) – The Safety Flight must be accomplished by 1 Jun 00. One Safety Seminar tape will be available in the trailer for members to take home to view. Due to several recent low approaches, everyone was reminded on the importance of watching your altitude in relation to the airport when thermaling in strong winds.

Maintenance (Will Connelly) - The #5 cylinder on the Pawnee was found to be in good shape. The reason for running rough appears to be fouled plugs which were replaced. OSC will keep the spare cylinder in-case one is needed in the future. The new Blanik has had it’s tail recovered, dents to the fusalage removed, front canopy replaced along with the side air vents. Radio brackets for our hand held radios will be installed in both seats along with access to an antenna and glider power. The new Blanik has a Borgelt audio variometer. We will order another Borgelt variometer with repeater and then place one of the Borgelts in the 1-26. Will Connelly still needs to repair the front seat holder in our existing Blanik (99950). Also, we need to add a back radio bracket to 99950 and provide access to glider power and the external antenna. The 1-26 manual with the 1-26 log book is missing and has been since our trip to Colorado last year. If anyone knows where it is, let Will know.

Old Business:

2-22 should leave Blair this week. We still need to mount a fire extinguisher in the Pawnee.

New Business:

Mac McKain will build a dolly for the new Blanik. We will see how well the new plane fits in the hanger and then decide how much the concrete pad should be extended. to facilitate moving the glider in and out of the hanger.

The summer trip to Colorado will be during the week of Jul 10-17. The destination is still being decided but could be Boulder CO, Salida CO, or both.

Lloyd Kaufman asked if OSC could give glider rides at the Seward Airport Open House on 20 May 2000. This issue is still being discussed.

Offutt AFB might need us to tow a acro-glider demonstration at the Offutt Air Show. We will try to have a glider static display there during the show.

Volunteers (two) are need to review the club financial books.

The meeting was adjourned.

Safety Seminar Group Sessions by Jaime Alexander

I am willing to come to one or two sessions where we can play the Safety Seminar tape and I will clarify the drawings and the hard to see stuff while generally facilitating the program. I have coordinated with Bob Moser for the use of his office and we have Tuesday evening April 25th scheduled from 7 to 9 PM. If you need the seminar but can only attend on weekends I also have Saturday morning May 6th available from 9 to 11 AM.

We have had 12 people attend the seminar and 9 of those have completed the "Ops 2000" quiz. Hence there should be an available audience. I however do not want to set this up and do it unless there is going to be good attendance. So if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity please call or email me with your RSVP. Of course you can still make your own appointment at Bob's office to view the tape and do the quiz.

Treasure’s Report by Robert Craig

The balance in the bank account includes the deposit for the 2-22. We haven’t received the balance for the 2-22 which will be used to replenish the engine fund. Again, monies owed by members is decreasing. – Let’s keep it up.
